General Summary

Under the immediate supervision of the Access Services Coordinator, the Part-time Supervisor provides general circulation and reserves services to users and supervises a student assistant.
Responsibilities & Duties

  • Provide Circulation/Reserve services during day, weekend, or evening hours during regular academic sessions. (For this position, the hours are: Saturdays 9:45 am to 6:00 pm and Sundays 11:45 am to 6:00 pm)
  • Charge/discharge materials.
  • Update ILLINET Online (IO) circulation records.
  • Provide reserve assistance, IO search assistance, and any other tasks connected with the Access Services Desk.
  • Perform library opening or closing procedures.
  • Assist patrons in use of the library and the functions of Access Service areas.
  • Communicate circulation policies and procedures to patrons.
  • Assist users in using the online catalog and in locating specific titles.
  • Assist users with the operation of microfilm and audiovisual machines.
  • Assist users with the operation of photocopy machines and Demon Express.
  • Shares responsibility for supervising student assistants, as assigned. The incumbent directly supervises the student assistants while she or he is scheduled to work at the desk.
  • Monitor the book charges made from other locations, making sure the routine processing is done properly.
  • Keep the necessary statistics on journal requests, photocopying, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Requirements

  • College degree.
  • Previous library experience.
  • PC experience.

Managerial responsibilities

May supervise one or more student assistants during desk shifts.

  • Ability to type accurately.
  • Ability to function independently.
  • Ability to deal with faculty and students in an efficient, friendly manner.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to spend extended periods standing. sitting, kneeling, crouching, and bending.
  • Routinely lifting up to 25 pounds may also be required.
  • Visual acuity, hand-eye coordination and motor skills sufficient to use a computer, copy machine and other office equipment.
