Qualifications:

No experience required but experience working with students would be beneficial. A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required.Work well with children, follow verbal and written instructions and basic computer knowledge. If a particular position requires a unique skill, the new employee will be required to either possess that skill or be trained by the employer. Must hold a Paraprofessional License.

Collection

  1. Follows collection development procedures and standards
  2. Processes new materials
  3. Provides basic cataloging of new materials
  4. Circulates and shelves all library resources
  5. Maintains an accurate electronic catalog to facilitate access to library resources
  6. Makes simple repairs on damaged books
  7. Participates in inter- and intra-library loan
  8. Manages Supplies
  9. Assists with inventories and withdrawal of materials

 

Environment

  1. Maintains an attractive and inviting school library environment with a variety of will working spaces for literacy activities
  2. Keeps the collection organized
  3. Enforces and reinforces school behavior expectations
  4. Prepares bulletin boards and displays
  5. Promotes a positive relationship with students, staff and community

 

Communication

  1. Communicates with teachers to learn their curricular needs
  2. Prepares correspondence, reports, resource lists, newsletters, and requisitions

Position Outcomes:
To assist the department chair and librarians by providing a wide variety of support and organizational services in the library. To assist students and staff in obtaining requested information and/or directing them to an appropriate resource.

General Responsibilities:
This position involves close interaction with students and staff, with the primary emphasis on providing service to the educational programs. This individual works under the direction of certified staff.   He/she is    expected to interact with students in a friendly manner while helping to maintain order in the library. The employee works within established procedures and systems, exercising some independence in the performance of routine matters.

Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma required; college degree preferred.
  2. Exemplary interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly and distinctly with students, staff, and outside agencies.
  3. Knowledge of changing technologies and the confidence to troubleshoot related issues.
  4. Ability to be flexible when interpreting policies/procedures.
  5. Knowledge of computer operations and office procedures and skills.

Position Expectations:

  1. Commits to positive interactions with students and teachers.
  2. Provides students and staff with access to necessary library resources by:
    1. checking resources in and out using computerized circulation system and maintaining reserve lists;
    2. maintaining and updating student and faculty registration in the database;
    3. requesting and collecting payments for overdue or lost materials, and preparing related reports;
    4. handling cash from safe and cash drawer, and preparing deposits;
    5. answering students’ requests for information; and
    6. assisting and instructing students and staff on the use of the photocopiers and other library instructional tools.
  3. Maintains an orderly and efficient library for students and staff by:
    1. providing assistance at circulation desk;
    2. shelving books and materials;
    3. helping librarians with their research for classes and students;
    4. completing reports as assigned (daily library schedules, statistics on library usage, etc.);
    5. processing and withdrawing books and audio-visual materials (unpacking boxes, labeling/attaching security strips, stamping books, updating catalog records, etc.);
    6. assisting with inventory;
    7. ordering supplies;
    8. opening and closing the library as necessary (turning on and shutting down computers and systems, unlocking and locking doors, etc.); and
    9. completing support tasks as assigned (obtaining or distributing mail, mending books, developing displays, etc.).
  4. Provides access to materials through interlibrary loan by:
    1. attending interlibrary loan meetings online and/or at the library system as the school’s representative; and
    2. handling all interlibrary loan requests for books and other non-periodical materials.
  5. Continues job performance enhancement by participating in professional growth activities.
  6. Exhibits a positive employee attitude and projects a professional image to students, staff, and others.
  7. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

The Digital Services Assistant will staff a busy technology desk and troubleshoot computer issues for people of all ages. Additionally, you will provide support for our new makerspace and digital media lab, the Creative Studio, which has 3D printers, vinyl cutters, laser cutter, and audio and video recording equipment. The ideal candidate will be excited to learn new technologies, have excellent customer services skills, and be a team player.

Education/Experience Required: BA/BS

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
