37.5 hours per week. Library is open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Fridays. One evening per week may be required.

Maintains the library’s bibliographic database in accordance to consortia and common standards. Responsible for development, implementation, support and administration of the College’s library system (ILS) supporting a variety of services including cataloging, circulation, acquisitions, serials, reports, external interface functions, and public access.

Illustrative Examples of Essential Functions:

  • Cataloging of materials according to national standards (AACR2, Library of Congress Subject Headings, MARC, RDA, etc.) in order to provide ready access of these materials to the College community.
  • Develops, troubleshoots, and maintains shared ILS. Works with consortia, Library staff, and IT to ensure technology applications and resources are tested, evaluated, monitored, and in partnership with all library staff, ensure students and staff can use them properly. Manages policy tables, new release implementation, and annual maintenance tasks.
  • Scans system logs to trace system or user behavior. Extracts and prepares relevant data from the ILS, including year-end statistics as required for the State Library annual report.
  • Upholds standards and criteria and performs best-practice cataloging maintenance in consortia databases as required by participation agreements.
  • Assist at the Circulation Desk and perform as necessary, circulation functions, reception duties, and support to library patrons in the use of college or library technology and resources.
  • Assist with the production of College photo ID cards.
  • Associate’s degree , Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 1-3 years of experience as a heavy relational database user or an ILS environment required, Voyager experience preferred.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a library

About the Unit
Unit Job Summary
Under supervision of the Electronic Resources Manager, and following established procedures, performs a broad range of complex and routine acquisitions and Electronic Resources Management processes. Assistant is responsible for access and maintenance of databases, e-books, and e-journals; troubleshooting and problem resolution; and keeping statistics, data gathering, and analysis for renewals, annual reports, and special projects. May hire, train, plan, and direct the work of student employees in a range of routine library tasks.

Essential Functions

Coordinate troubleshooting efforts of ERM:
Delegate problems to other students/staff and communicate issues to entire department.
Provide direct assistance to patrons and library staff with online product access problems.
Review ERM licenses, acquisitions data, and vendor documents to determine causes of access issues.
Contact wide group of vendors and university technical support staff to resolve problems.
Refer unusually complex problems to supervisor.

Gather, collate, and present usage statistics, acquisitions information, and other data for various online products:
Navigate through vendor interfaces to find, download, and compile statistics from a wide variety of sources.
Coordinate analysis project activities across students/staff.
Review data for potential errors and abnormalities.
Identify and use appropriate spreadsheet functions and/or database queries to clean up data, calculate acquisitions costs, and merge data from multiple sources.
Create and maintain documentation of procedures for major analysis projects.

Perform database maintenance and record enhancement:
Coordinate major clean-up projects across other students/staff.
Update and change existing data in ILS, locally maintained ERM database, and SFX to reflect URL, coverage data, and other changes for online materials.
Test proxy server access and update definitions as appropriate, communicate and verify changes with IT Services.

Create and manage acquisitions and bibliographic data for new orders and renewals as appropriate:
Search online journal, database and other product requests in ILS, and ERM databases.
Tag and import OCLC records.
Create and update acquisitions records within ILS.
Create additional data as appropriate within locally maintained ERM database, and SFX.
Update records as appropriate for cancellations, including closing POs, notifying patrons of impending cancellations, and removing access from public library systems.
Place orders by email or phone, claim outstanding orders, process renewals

Maintain acquisitions department website.

Other duties as assigned.

Education
High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Experience
Related library experience, or an equivalent combination of position-related education and experience, required.

The Elmhurst Public library seeks to be the center of the community by providing opportunities for residents to enrich their lives. The Adult Services Department is seeking an individual to work our public service desks helping patrons find information, answer questions, and locate books and other media. Equally important, through a mixture of on-desk help, weekly technology classes, and drop-in sessions, Technology Specialists facilitate a friendly learning environment for patrons of all skill levels to explore technology. Applicants for this position should show a demonstrated interest in technology, expertise with the use of creative software, and the ability to offer fantastic customer service.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

*Staffs the public service desk, assists library patrons finding materials, answering questions, providing technology help and facilitating the use of the Creative Studio

*Teaches monthly technology classes on a variety of topics such as Social Media, Microsoft Office, 3D Printing and the Adobe Creative Cloud

*Helps to maintain an atmosphere conducive to patrons connecting, creating and exploring.

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

*Strong knowledge of computers, Microsoft Office, and the Internet

*High aptitude with creative technology software and equipment

*Ability to interact patiently and pleasantly with people of all ages

The Green Hills Public Library District has a part-time opening for a Circulation Associate in the Circulation Department. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Check-in and check-out library material.
  • Collect payment for fines, replacement library cards, and fees for other services.
  • Issue library cards, both new and replacement cards.
  • Answer and direct patron inquiries either by phone or public service desk.
