Fountaindale Public Library District, which proudly serves the diverse community of Bolingbrook, Illinois, is seeking an experienced individual to perform all duties necessary to provide effective patron assistance with account setup, maintenance and general inquiries.

Duties: Provides consistent, gracious and friendly service to internal and external customers.  Understands, explains and enforces library policies and procedures while safeguarding intellectual freedom and patron privacy.  Performs all duties of Circulation Services desks/drive-up window including local and consortial library card registration and renewal, checking materials in/out, patron account assistance, updates, inquiries and discrepancies.  Handles patron financial matters with discretion; collecting fees and fines accordingly.  Handles all incoming customer service inquiries via phone and virtually; answers general and account information questions and routes others as needed.  Assists and instructs patrons in the proper usage of self checkouts and the automated return system as well as location and retrieval of materials.  Locates and processes materials from daily Request to Fill list as well as materials coming from within library system; routes materials to other libraries and departments as well as prepares and shelves patron hold materials for lobby and Drive-Up pickup.  Searches for materials reported as Missing, Lost or Claims Returned; process accordingly upon locating.  Assists patrons in the use of public catalog and public copier/fax/scanner.  Assists patrons in program registration.  Prepares and submits required records, reports and statistics in keeping with the policies and procedures of the library.  Retrieves materials from off-site book drops.  Performs work of Circulation Services Aides as needed or assigned.  Participates in library committees for special interests and events.  Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Requires expertise acquired through completion of a High School diploma or GED certificate.

Experience:  At least one year of customer service experience, preferably in a library setting.

Skills: Office & Library Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.  Basic knowledge of productivity suites and integrated library systems.  Ability to exercise reasonable and independent judgment and discretion.  Ability to adapt to and effectively implement change.  Ability to effectively use a variety of tablets and similar devices.

Communication Communicates effectively in English, both orally and in writing.  Speaking skills in other languages, particularly Spanish, is a plus.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with staff and public.  Ability to stay calm and effective in difficult situations.  Ability to empathize and relate to the needs of all patrons.  Ability to adapt to change.

Physical Requirements: The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the functions of this job.  Physical requirements include: good speaking, hearing and vision ability, ability to push carts of library materials weighing up to 100 pounds frequently, lifting materials weighing up to 50 pounds occasionally and up to 20 pounds frequently. Will require standing for prolonged periods of time.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in a typical library environment.

Position Summary: Circulates library materials and provides general library services to library users.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Circulates materials and equipment from the library.
  2. Retrieves materials from behind the library circulation desk (magazines, A/V materials, reserves) for library users.

  4. Assists students with using the online catalog and locating materials within the library.

  12. Performs other duties and special projects as assigned consistent with the role of this position.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. High School Diploma and 2 years customer service work experience.
  2. Must pass a Library of Congress shelving test to be eligible for employment.
  3. Ability to use the automated circulation system, online catalog and other computer based applications.
  4. Demonstrated oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Associate’s Degree.
  2. Work experience in a school or community college setting.
  3. Work experience in an academic or public library.
  4. Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite of computer programs.

Position Description:
Fountaindale Public Library District, which proudly serves the diverse community of Bolingbrook, Illinois, is seeking an individual to perform all duties necessary to maintain attractive materials displays throughout the library and assist with a variety of Collection Development duties.

The schedule for each position is listed as follows:

Aide Position 1:

Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 9:00 am – 2:00 pm

Sunday: Noon – 4:00 pm

Aide Position 2:

Tuesday, Thursday: 8:30 am – 4:30 pm

Saturday: 9:00 am – 1:00 pm

Duties: Keep New Books Areas looking neat and inviting. This includes putting attractive materials face out and straightening materials on shelves. Books should be shelf read to make sure they are in the correct Dewey Decimal order. Remove books from the shelves when they are too crowded by using the dates marked on the “new” stickers. Use the library’s computer system to change shelving locations and remove the stickers from the spines. Keep all book and other material displays in the building stocked. If the same books have not circulated, they would need to be changed regularly. Locate specific items on the shelves based upon lists as assigned. Examples of lists would include items for displays, items being considered for discard, items that are missing or items that need to be recataloged. Use the library’s computer system to create electronic carts of materials. Mark materials that are being withdrawn. Disable RFID tags on items being withdrawn. Do inventories of specific collections as assigned. This would involve using a laptop computer with a scanner to scan the barcodes of each individual items in a specific collection. Fill book bags on bag racks. Assist with boxing up withdrawn materials. Assists with special projects as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Entry level position. Two years of high school required.

Experience: No experience necessary.

Skills: Office & Library Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks. Ability to arrange materials in call number (alphabetical and numerical) order. Basic knowledge of productivity suites. Ability to exercise reasonable and independent judgment and discretion. Ability to adapt to and effectively implement change. Ability to effectively use a variety of tablets and similar devices.

Position Description: 

Maintains order of the monograph or journal collection housed in assigned areas of the Library.  Staffs desk at entry/exit doors. Oversees students clearing books from tables within the building, re-shelving materials that have been returned from circulation, and working at door desks. It is also important for the incumbent to be able to analyze problems related to the shelving of materials and assist users in finding materials.

Hours:  Sunday – Thursday 4:45pm-1am

Start date:  Monday, February 15, 2016

Pay rate:  $11.88/hour

DUTIES:

  • Sorts, shelves, and straightens books and journals in assigned areas. Oversees student Library Aides shelving books and journals and completing other projects.
  • Staffs door desk. Inspects books, briefcases, purses and other parcels to assure library materials are properly charged.
  • Performs routine shelf and reading and stack maintenance; periodically shifts the collection.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. High school graduation or equivalent.

2. Any one or any combination totaling 6 months from the following categories:

(a) work experience in a library or equivalent setting or general clerical or office/clerical related customer service experience.

(b) college course work in any field as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent

• 30 semester hours equals six months

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
