The Barrington Area Library is looking for friendly, dependable people to join our Material Services team, which plays an important role in maintaining a welcoming and well-organized environment for our customers. This position is year-round and averages 12–19 hours per week. Duties include using our automated system to sort items and shelving materials in all areas of the library. Starting salary is $8.79 per hour.

Requirements: * Pass our pre-screening test with 70% accuracy or above. * Ability to read 8-point font print. * Physical dexterity to reach shelves of various heights and push heavy carts throughout your work shift. * Minimum age requirement is 16 years old.
Preferences: * Previous work or volunteer experience that demonstrates attention to detail and good interpersonal skills.

The Resource Center Aide is responsible for the circulation of library materials. This includes lending materials to students/staff as well as collecting borrowed material. Additional duties include:

  • Sort and reshelf library materials.
  • Assist students looking for information in library books, periodicals or via the Internet.
  • Assist students at computer terminals. This includes helping students with collecting research material online, organizing research papers, creating resumes, creating email accounts and posting online applications.
  • Administer tests to prospective students.
  • Administer tours of the Resource Center to new students.
  • Administer workshops used to teach students how to use Microsoft products and how to use an electronic database.
  • Skills needed to manage a busy Resource Center

Hours are:
4:00PM to 9:00 PM Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. 8:00AM to 3:00PM on Friday.
Occasional Saturday may be required in the future. We currently do not have any Saturday hours scheduled in 2017 however this may change. These hours were scheduled by the Admissions office from 9:00AM to 1:00PM. A Saturday schedule is known months in advance. Historically they have been scheduled once a month.
Near Chicago Loop and CTA. $13.00/hr.

Duties and Responsibilities The Intercampus Loan Assistant is responsible for the movement of library books and other materials between Loyola campuses, as well as providing access to materials in the Library Storage Facility (LSF). This position is also responsible for opening the Cudahy Library building Monday through Friday, and serves as one of the circulation desk supervisors. – Performs intercampus loan operations at Cudahy Library and serves as an important member of the Access Services team
– Processes and manages requests for books housed at the Library Storage Facility and Cudahy Library, overseeing retrieval and processing
– Responsible for opening Cudahy Library Building: Monday – Friday
– Serves as one of the supervisors at the service desk for circulation, reserves, and audiovisual services
– Provides customer service via phone, email, and in person for intercampus loan, LSF, and general circulation issues
– Responsible for daily routing/transferring of intercampus, interlibrary loan and LSF materials between Loyola Libraries via the shuttle bus
– Supervises two or more student assistants
– Assists with inventory control and catalog maintenance
Minimum Education or Experience Bachelor’s degree and one year of library experience; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Computer Skills: – Computer experience and ability to work with library catalog software, as well as Microsoft Office, internet, and email
Qualifications: This is an area with a high-volume of work, and successful candidates must be efficient and well-organized. In addition, duties performed by this position are highly time sensitive and as a result, promptness and excellent time management skills are paramount.
