REQUIRED:

Typing 35 WPM. Must be dependable and punctual. Good communication skills. Excellent English language and customer service skills. Self-starter and team player. Preference given to candidates who will work more than 1 semester.

EDUCATION:

THIS IS A STUDENT JOB.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours for Fall/Spring semester or 1 credit hour for Summer semester.
Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above.
If a first semester student, GPA requirement is waived.

If a Student qualifies for Federal Work Study, the Student will be hired as a Federal Work Study employee to utilize these funds.

 Responsibilities:

  • Provide reference assistance, technology, and readers’ advisory service
  • Participate in the operation of the youth services department.

The Highwood Public Library is looking for someone with a strong public service attitude to help staff the public service desk.  The person filling this position will have the opportunity to perform a variety of tasks during the course of a day.  Typical duties include: performing all circulation functions; assisting patrons with locating materials in the library as well as at other libraries; answering reference questions; assisting  patrons with use of the computers; receiving and processing materials; monitoring the use of the library; and other tasks as needed.

The ideal candidate will have excellent customer service skills; be proficient in the use of computers – especially Microsoft products; be interested in learning new skills; and be willing to perform a variety of tasks.  Fluency in Spanish is preferred but not required.

Batavia Public Library District, Youth Services team, has two positions open for enthusiastic, creative, friendly, public service-oriented individuals who enjoy working with children. Batavia Public Library serves a district population of 26,562 from a 54,000-square-foot facility that opened in 2002.

Responsibilities: The selected individuals will utilize Library technologies and traditional Library resources to assist patrons of all ages, prepare and present storytimes and other programs, as well as other duties as needed.

Qualifications:

Essential Responsibilities 1. Circulates materials and equipment from the library.

2. Retrieves materials from behind the library circulation desk (magazines, A/V materials, reserves) for library users.

3. Creates and edits PSC patron records in the automated circulation system.

4. Assists students with using the online catalog and locating materials within the library.

5. Collects monies from library users including, but not limited to, service fees, overdue fines and replacement costs for library materials.

Unit Job Summary
The Library Assistant II is responsible for performing a broad range of library tasks closely following departmental guidelines and procedures, including: charge and discharge stacks materials; check-in periodicals and maintain holding records; copy catalog; repair materials as needed; and place book orders and process new books. Performs work in accordance with Laboratory Schools Library standards and procedures. This position requires the ability to tolerate and work in a moderate dust environment.
This is a nine-month position.
Education
High School diploma required; college degree preferred.
Experience
Previous related work experience required; previous library experience preferred. Previous experience working in a K-12 educational setting preferred. Previous experience using Follett Destiny online catalog preferred. Macintosh computer experience which includes spreadsheet, word processing, presentation and database software required; working skill with keyboard required.
