The Grayslake Area Public Library District is seeking two friendly, tech-savvy, and patron-service focused people to staff our coming makerspace. If you enjoy providing exceptional service, have a passion for all things technological and want to be instrumental in starting a new, collaborative service, this could be the job for you! Candidates should bring a sample of their own technology instruction to the first interview. The tentative starting date for these positions will be February 1st, 2018.

This position is for approximately 10 to 11 hours per week, including, afternoons, evenings and weekends. For current Library employees, the hours and schedule for this position may be combined with those of an existing position with the express approval of your existing supervisor that the additional hours will work with your existing schedule. The schedule may vary, based on needs. During the planning phase, the schedule will be based on the needs of the Makerspace Project Manager (Library Director), Automated Systems Manager and Maker Space Lead. When the Makerspace opens, the schedule will be based on the hours of makerspace service and other responsibilities

Applicants must have a high school diploma and some instructional experience. Applicants should have experience instructing others in use of technology and creative equipment and familiarity with Apple, Microsoft, and Android systems. Basic CAD software knowledge and experience with video and audio production software preferred. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with people of all ages and abilities and proven ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group are required.

The person in this position will: Coordinate with YSD and ASD in planning and providing programs, equipment, and services for patrons of all ages and abilities. Review and evaluate materials and physical items for purchase for the makerspace. Train staff and patrons in use of makerspace resources. Create displays and handouts. Track use of consumables and equipment.

The Joliet Public Library is seeking an energetic, motivated individual to be our Tween/Teen Youth Services Associate at our Ottawa Street Branch location. Responsibilities include:

The Ela Area Public Library is seeking a friendly, energetic, and self-motivated applicant with exceptional customer service skills. Our library strives to be a welcoming center for our community and this position is responsible for creating a positive library experience at an extremely busy information desk. Responsibilities include general reference, passport services, reader’s advisory, and technology assistance. Responsibilities:

  • Provides general reference and reader’s advisory service.

  • Processes passport applications as a certified Passport Agent.

  • Takes voter registrations, if eligible.
  • Attends staff meetings, staff training days, and department meetings.
  • Answers questions about using technology including library apps, mobile devices, the internet, and word processing.

Requirements:
2 years of college, one year of work experience with public interaction and customer service experience required. Library experience preferred. Spanish, Polish, or Chinese language skills a plus.

Knowledge and Skills:
Must have the ability to:

  • Deal with multiple tasks effectively and efficiently.
  • Interact with patrons courteously, skillfully and accurately.
  • Work effectively with co-workers in a collaborative, team-based organization.
