Job Description: Are you enthusiastic, dedicated to excellent customer service, and passionate about working with children, teens and families? The ideal candidate wants to: provide excellent reference and readers’ advisory services; build relationships with our patrons, schools and community; and encourage literacy and a love of learning for all ages. This opportunity is great for experienced library workers interested in working directly with the public and those who want to learn about delivering public library youth services.

The Youth & Teen Services Department serves children birth – 18 years old and their caregivers. Primary responsibilities include: readers’ advisory and reference services, collection management, displays and clerical tasks.


  • Bachelor’s degree or LTA certification required
  • Strong commitment to customer/public service
  • Knowledge of current technology
  • Prior experience working with children, teens, and caregivers
  • Positive, organized, and able to work individually and as a team member


  • Knowledge of children’s and teen literature
  • Spanish-language skills

Benefits: Optional deferred 457b compensation plan and paid time off (PTO) after first full year of employment. This position will participate in IMRF (IL Municipal Retirement Fund).
