Elmhurst Public Library is seeking a new friendly voice of the Library. To provide excellent service for our patrons, EPL has real people skillfully answering our phone. Phone Console staff assist callers by identifying patrons’ needs and then routing the calls appropriately and providing basic information when needed. The ideal candidate enjoys working with the public, has the ability to organize, multitask, prioritize and work under pressure as well as solid communication skills, both written and verbal.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Answering and routing all incoming calls accurately and providing basic information
  • Processing interlibrary loan materials and calling patrons when reserved items are ready for pick up
  • Additional duties may include greeting patrons and answering general questions at our Welcome Desk

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

  • This position requires a Saturday shift.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions with strict attention to detail.
  • Accuracy in filing both alphabetically and numerically with decimals.
  • Ability to master the operation of telephone equipment.
  • Ability to work efficiently and productively with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to lift, carry and grip individual books that may weigh up to 10 lbs.

PREFERRED:

  • Experience working with the public.

CRITICAL MENTAL/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Hand/finger dexterity sufficient to operate a computer; visual acuity sufficient to read a computer screen; ability to read, write and communicate in English fluently.
