Salary: $15.44 per hour

The Elmhurst Public Library seeks to be the center of the community by providing opportunities for residents to enrich their lives. With the expected spring completion of a 3,500 sq. ft. makerspace, two Creative Specialists will work in the “Makery” with patrons of all ages to use the 3D printers, laser cutter, embroidery machine, sewing machines, card making supplies, and more. Through a strong emphasis on teaching by doing, staff will develop, teach, and evaluate a variety of technology and maker programs. As we acknowledge that no one person can know everything, Library makerspace staff members will work collaboratively to complement each other’s talents and interests. Applicants for this position should demonstrate an interest in creative technology and the ability to offer fantastic customer service.


*Promote the use of the Makery and offer assistance to patrons of all ages

*Facilitate ongoing activities in the Makery

*Teach technology and maker classes

*Ability to adapt to change and learn new technologies


*Strong knowledge of computers, Microsoft Office, and the Internet

*Aptitude with creative technology software and equipment

*Ability to interact patiently and pleasantly with people of all ages

*High School diploma


*Experience working with the public

*Experience providing group or one-on-one technology instruction

*Familiarity with maker technology and/or crafting.

*Knowledge of basic library organization
