Full-time (38) hours including days, evenings and weekend rotation.
Pay Range starts at $15.28 per hour up to $19.10, depending on qualifications

This position is in our Youth Services Department.


  1. Provides patron access to information by answering basic questions and general assistance from the ASK ME desk and through roving the department. Refers more complex scope and depth of knowledge questions to Librarian.
  2. Provides basic reader assistance in book selection and actively expands skills per department guidelines with an emphasis on strong customer service skills.
  3. Promotes Department services, programs and events, which includes registrations, providing tours and instructional assistance.
  4. Assists Librarians with collection maintenance duties.
  5. Categorizes shelf materials for a variety of patron uses such as: booklists, display, reading level designations, board book category, etc.
  6. Gathers library materials for loans to Teachers for their classroom use.
  7. Maintains displays and information centers in department and lobby.
  8. Assists with rotations of seasonal materials in and out of storage.
  9. Attends Library meetings, training workshops and serves on committees as requested.
  10. Prepares and submits reports on a variety of activities to the Youth Services Manager.

Job Requirements and Qualifications: Associate Degree in a related field or Library Technical Assistant Certificate and one year experience in public or school library or bookstore. Additionally one year experience involving customer service style contact with the public. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, Internet browsers; and experience with database searches.

Knowledge and Core Competencies Required:

  1. Displays strong customer service skills in daily interaction with staff and patrons including courtesy, respect, judgment, patience and empathy for patrons. Exercises interpersonal skills.
  2. Utilizes listening and other communication skills; synthesizes information and organizes thoughts clearly. Uses tact, sense of humor, and self-confidence as well as displaying a non-judgmental attitude to establish a climate which facilitates communication.
  3. Knowledge of children’s or student’s reading interests and ability levels, and basic information resources.
  4. Spanish language skills desirable.
  5. Frequently required to walk, sit, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk and hear. Some lifting.
  6. Communicate effectively in English both verbally (one-on-one with patrons) and in writing.
