15 hours per week; hours will be divided between days, evenings, and one Saturday rotation per month
Beginning at $11.28 per hour, depending on qualifications

Would you like to expand your current knowledge of early literacy or children’s services and gain practical experience serving youth?

We have an opening for a Youth Services Assistant at Midlothian Public Library, a southern suburb of Chicago. Our area is inclusive and culturally diverse. MPL serves 14,000 residents in Cook County and Children’s Services is a vibrant department!

Requirements:  High school diploma or equivalent required.  Students studying early childhood education or library science are encouraged to apply. Spanish bilingual skills are a plus!

Working Conditions: Exerts up to 25 lbs. of force, ability to push a cart loaded with library materials, ability to reach and bend to retrieve materials and to stand at service desk for long periods.


  • Commitment to quality customer service.
  • Recommending books and other materials for children and their caregivers.

  • Creating displays and projects for the department.
  • Strong oral and written language skills
  • Communicating and collaborating with community members about library services.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and Internet search skills
