Aurora University is an independent, comprehensive institution founded in 1893 offering bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees. Our two campuses are located in Aurora, Illinois and on the shores of Geneva Lake in Wisconsin. Additionally, we have an Educational Center in Woodstock, Illinois. Position Purpose: The part-time Library Service Desk Assistant is versatile and imaginative with a strong service orientation. This position relies on a keen awareness of new technologies and the main responsibilities are to assist with library technology systems and processes while supporting reference service to students.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Works in a team environment to provide outstanding service to the student population.
  2. Assists with library computer systems and reference services.
  3. Keeps up-to-date on library services and works in collaboration with other staff to initiate new services.

Essential Job Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or LTA required

Experience:

  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work in a team environment
  • Working knowledge of technology
  • Self-starter willing to take initiative and work independently
  • Library experience a plus

Skills:

  • Excellent communication and organization skills and a customer-service orientation
  • Ability to prioritize work and to meet deadlines required
  • Flexibility with an evolving work situation essential
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of faculty, staff and students and to develop strong relationships with colleagues, staff, administrators, students and the general public

Special Requirements:

  • Schedule is 8:00 PM to 1:00 AM Sunday through Thursday during regular semester only (no summer hours).

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to move about campus and the library
  • Must be able to move books/items on carts
  • Ability to interact via telephone, in person, and via electronic media
