Job Summary

The Collections Assistant will work in the Collections division of the Lake County Forest Preserves’ Lake County Discovery Museum. The Assistant will assist with preparing and moving the museum’s historic collections from their current location in Wauconda, IL into a new collections care facility in the lower level of the museums new location in Libertyville, IL. The Assistant reports to the Exhibitions and Collections Manager and will work closely with museum staff and volunteers to accomplish this project.

 

Essential Functions & Experience

Essential Functions -The Collections Assistant will assist with completing an inventory of the museum’s historic collections. This work will include condition reporting, photographing, and updating database records in the museum’s collections management software; Mimsy XG. Upon completing the inventory, the Assistant will help pack and move the collections from their current location in Wauconda, IL into a new collections care facility in Libertyville, IL. Experience -Qualified applicants should have a Bachelor’s degree in history, museum studies, library science, or related field and two years of experience working with historic collections in a museum setting.  Strong computer skills and familiarity with collections management software is required.  Must possess the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
