The American Theological Library Association (ATLA) is seeking a part time Digitization Specialist to support the scanning or digitization of journal articles from print copies using in-house scanning technology. This is a non-permanent position with a duration up to 9 months.  

The Production Department supports ATLA’s overall mission by ensuring that our databases are distinguished for their quality and timeliness of delivery. We ensure that the editorial scope of our offerings reflect the current diversity of perspective in religious and theological scholarship.

The successful candidate will have a good attention to detail as well as a passion for accuracy. You should also be able to focus for several hours at a time on a specific task. We value teamwork and good communication / interpersonal skills.

Previous experience with preservation or digitization projects is a plus!

Minimum requirements

Detail-oriented person who can concentrate on the task at hand and provide consistent work when conducting repetitious tasks; flexible and willing to learn new technology; physical ability to turn pages and to operate a manual paper cutter requiring 20 lbs. of pressure; familiarity with computers; and some college level coursework.

Desired skills/knowledge

Scanning software knowledge; serial publishing patterns knowledge; digital preservation knowledge; familiarity with MS Outlook, Excel and Word.
