Job Purpose

The primary responsibility of the Archivist is to promote access to Rebuild Foundation’s collections along with a team of Reading Room Attendants at the Stony Island Arts Bank. Reporting to the Archival Collections and Public Engagement Manager, the Archivist will advise on methods for cataloging and properly caring for our collections. In addition to assisting with daily library functions, the Archivist will work with the Manager to support the development of our collections-based programs and volunteer projects.

24 hours per week

Duties and responsibilities

  • Implement access policies in coordination with Archival Collections Manager
  • Staff SIAB reading room, facilitate library registration and orientation
  • Assist in ongoing development of collections cataloging
  • Maintain care and security of collections
  • Assist in volunteer training development
  • Provide administrative support for Archives Advisory Committee and Archival Collections Manager
  • Field questions from prospective researchers via email and phone
  • Collaborate on the development of archivist-in-residence program, incorporating research, study, and community engagement opportunities.


2-4 years experience in library or collections management required. Experience coordinating residencies or fellowships for artists or scholars preferred.

  • BA in art history, history, film, museum studies or related field helpful. MA in library, archival or information studies preferred.
  • Experience working in and with under-resourced communities
  • Excellent relationship-building and interpersonal skills
  • Oral and written communications skills and comfort communicating with individuals from different sectors (academics, artists, philanthropists, etc.)
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and identify priorities
