Student Support Services-Media Specialist

I. Responsibilities

  • Organize and manage the Library/Media Center.
  • Create a safe and attractive environment conducive to learning.
  • Collaborate effectively with staff.
  • Prepare budgets.
  • Communicate with staff and administration regarding plans, projects and events.
  • Coordinate print and digital collection development.
  • Supervise ESP assistant.
  • Prepare monthly usage/activity report for administration.
  • Develop programs and displays to promote reading and literacy.
  • Provide staff development to teachers for project and research ideas.
  • Coordinate test make up center.
  • Utilize professional resources to reflect current practices.
  • Will be directly responsible to the building principal.
  • Must perform all responsibilities, classroom and supervisory, in a professional manner as expected of all district educators.

II. Qualifications

  • Possess or qualify for an Illinois Professional Educator License and meet the ISBE minimum credit hour requirements in subjects taught.
  • Library Information Specialist endorsement required.
  • Ability to stimulate students to actively participate in the learning process.
  • Sincere interest in young adults and a philosophy of humaneness as an educator.
  • Ability to work closely with other staff members.

III. Salary

  • Salary and benefits based on current MCHSEA contract
  • McHenry High Schools provide a comprehensive education for approximately 2,350 students.
  • West Campus educates approximately 1,500 students, with a staff of 95.
  • Class scheduling is traditional eight-period day, 45-minute periods and a 45-minute lunch.
  • Approximately 75% of our graduates attend post-secondary educational or vocational institutions.
  • Two four-year (9-12 grade) high school campuses a mile and a half apart.

V. The Community

  • Formerly a resort community, changing and growing rapidly into a suburban-type community of approximately 40,000.
  • Located on the Fox River at the foot of the Northern Illinois Chain of Lakes, 75 minutes from downtown Chicago, 60 minutes from Northern Illinois University.
  • Growing amounts of light industry and regular commuter train service to Chicago and suburbs.
