TITLE:                      Media Specialist  (2 Positions Available)

SUPERVISOR:         Building Principal

SUPERVISES:           Students

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Excellent oral and written communication skills using the English language.
  2. Minimum of three years experience with library media services.
  3. Experience and skill with a wide range of instructional software and programs.
  4. Proficient in Microsoft Office and various web-based applications.
  5. Basic knowledge in the operations of computers, printers, and peripherals.
  6. Ability to analyze and resolve basic hardware and software problems.
  7. Demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with people.

LICENSES/CREDENTIAL: Valid Illinois Substitute Teaching License or license authorizing services as a Library Media Specialist Endorsement preferred.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILTIES:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following essential functions satisfactorily:

  • Participates in the development and implementation of technology.
  • Plans and implements the media center program
  • Establishes and maintains an environment in which students and staff can work at productive levels
  • Manages the selection, acquisition, circulation, and maintenance of materials and equipment
  • Provides based technology instruction to students
  • Implements effective teaching techniques and varied instructional strategies that address the diversity of learners
  • Promotes the development of effective research skills and serves as an instructional consultant
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the District and/or professional growth activities and university courses. Participates cooperatively with the administrator in the evaluation process.
  • Cooperates in school-wide supervision of students during out-of-classroom activities
  • Participates in faculty and/or District committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
  • Performs other job-related duties as may be assigned by the Principal.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY:

  • Moderate to extensive degree of physical and emotional stamina
  • Frequent and prolonged standing, walking and sitting
  • Ability to restrain students in emergency situations
  • Possible exposure to bodily fluids due to student injury and illnesses

COMPENSATION: Salary is based on long-term substitute teacher rates.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten-Month Work Year

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually.
