Job Title: Clerk I – Interlibrary Loan (Circulation Department)
Part Time
20 hours per week (day, evening and weekend hours)
$13.98 / hour
Position Description: 

Applicants must possess the ability to perform various interlibrary loan functions:

  • Searches and place holds for patrons into OCLC and SirsiDynix or other library databases as necessary. Works with patrons during the entire ILL lifecycle of request, loan, renewal, and returns of borrowed materials.
  • Verifies, locates, and replies to interlibrary loan requests; sends out requested materials via courier and mail.
  • Prepares materials and paperwork for incoming books for patrons.
  • Receives and processes items from delivery.
  • Searches for and checks in items from pick list.
  • Prepares books or materials for outgoing ILL delivery.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 Applicants must possess the ability to perform various circulation functions:

  • Check out/in books and materials.
  • Interact with patrons concerning circulation of materials, issuance of library cards, collecting fines/fees, etc.
  • Answer incoming telephone calls providing routine information, transferring calls and taking messages.
  • Sort returned books in alphabetical and numerical order on carts.

Interact with outside agencies including other local libraries.
Direct patron inquiries.
Inspect and redirect materials for cleaning, repair, withdrawal, reordering.
Perform other library related activities as required.
Must be able to work days, evenings, and weekends.

Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of a secondary education; one year of general work experience including contact with the public.

Working knowledge of routine library functions and procedures; working knowledge of the function and procedures of interlibrary loan and interlibrary loan databases preferred; ability to operate a computer terminal using a variety of library software; ability to stand, walk, and/or stoop for long periods of time, ability to lift up to 35 pounds; ability to push/pull loaded carts in excess of 75 pounds; familiarity with Microsoft Word,  email and basic internet preferred; ability to interact pleasantly and effectively with staff and patrons; ability to work accurately in a changing environment with frequent interruptions. This position has day, evening and weekend hours.
