Learning Center Assistant

Job Description

The successful candidate for Learning Center Assistant will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills and will perform a variety of clerical functions.  Specifically, the successful candidate will:

  • Assist individual students in locating reference materials and other instructional materials.
  • Assist students in making proper use of center equipment and materials.
  • Operates the circulation desk and keeps complete circulation files.
  • Operates equipment and apparatus on request, either in the media center or elsewhere.
  • Distributes schedule of the use of the media center and its materials and equipment.
  • Reads to small groups of students and listens to individual students if appropriate.
  • Assumes responsibility for cataloging and filing learning materials.
  • Assists in preparing and maintaining special educational displays that reinforce important parts of the curriculum.
  • Buy new/replace books, materials on an ongoing basis.
  • Daily supervision of students during indoor/outdoor recess, lunchroom supervision and after school day care bus supervision.
  • Supervision during standardized testing.
  • Completes laminating and conference scheduling.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Building Principal.

The successful candidate will present a friendly, pleasant demeanor and be able to interact positively with staff and students.  The Learning Center Assistant must also possess excellent word processing and computer skills.
