Job Title: Digital Literacy Specialist
Part Time
Schedule: Monday from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Tuesday from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Thursday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, every other Saturday from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, and one Sunday per month from noon to 6:00 pm.
Starting at $19.26 per hour
Position Description: 

We’re looking for a dynamic self-starter to join our team of digital literacy specialists. Are you passionate about technology, learning, and bridging the digital divide? This position will plan and present technology related classes and activities to all ages, provide technical assistance, and oversee the youth and adult computer areas, focusing mainly on children.


  • Provides training for patrons of all ages in computer skills, individually and in classes
  • Assists patrons in the usage of various software packages, programs, computers, printers, scanners, etc.
  • Plans and presents weekly technology related activities for children and young adults
  • Troubleshoots minor problems with computer hardware, software, and peripherals throughout the library
  • Ensures that rules are consistently followed in the computer labs and maintains order
  • Cleans and checks computers daily for general working order
  • Sets up software programs for users, according to library computer policy
  • Reports any problem, computer or behavioral, to the supervisor
  • Reports technical problems to the IT staff
  • Executes opening and closing procedures for all public computers
  • Completes computer-related projects assigned by supervisor
  • May set up and operate AV equipment for library meetings and programs
  • Maintains a current knowledge of the library’s electronic resources including online products and links off the library’s web page


  • High school diploma or equivalent; some college preferred
  • Outgoing personality
  • Teaching and/or coaching experience with people of all ages
  • Experience working with young adults
  • Knowledge of Microsoft and Apple computer systems
  • Strength in digital media creation such as audio, images, and video
  • Expertise with word processing, spreadsheet, and desktop publishing software
  • Expertise with the Internet, including Web-based email and browsers
  • Understanding of basic hardware and software operating principles; ability to troubleshoot computer systems and isolate problems
  • Ability to work independently
  • Clear oral and written communication skills with people of all ages, especially children
  • Experience in use of computers, software, electronic resources, and internet as related to libraries
  • Experience in a customer service environment preferred
  • Interest in making (arduinos, 3D printers,etc.)
  • Familiarity with a foreign language is desirable

Physical Requirements include:

  • Nearly constant computer use
  • Ability to navigate the department to assist patrons
  • Ability to lift laptop computers and maneuver rolling carts
