Function of Position:

Promote and maintain a quiet and safe environment for Library patrons that is conducive to research and learning.

Duties of Position:
  • Monitor all areas of the Library watching for behavior not compliant with Library policy.
  • Act as Library representative to explain Library policy and quiet zones.
  • Mediation of conflicts, approaching patrons creating a hostile environment and referring situations to COD Police Department when warranted.
  • Responsible for emergency evacuation in assigned areas of the Library.
  • Pick up materials needing reshelving from carrels and stacks and place them in a central spot to be taken to the Circulation Desk at an appropriate time. (This is only to be done after observing the materials unattended for longer than one hour.)
  • Report concerns, damages, and needed repairs to appropriate Library staff member.
  • Assist in closing procedures by making rounds of the Library, and seeing that all patrons have left the Library.
  • Answer directional questions and provide triage to Library service desks.
  • Assist CCIC personnel, reference librarians and circulation staff with patron needs or problems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience and Education:



6 months working with the public. Proficiency in spoken English.


High School diploma or equivalent.



1 year working in a library.


1 year college.

Equipment & Working Conditions:

Person must be reliable and willing to address people who are being disruptive or need referral to another location in the Library. Some bending and stooping required. Mobile to monitor entire Library. Mobile to climb stairs.
