Under the direction of the Manager of Library Services in charge of circulation, periodicals, acquisitions, cataloging, or collection management, the library assistant performs various routine tasks in the designated library area serving staff, students, alumni, and community borrowers.

Associate in Science Degree and Library Technical Assistant Certificate and two to three years related experience preferred. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required and minimum of three to 5 years related library experience accepted.

The Library Assistant II will process catalogued items for circulation, maintain records of holdings and process items for the reserve collection, consisting of data entry, deletions and revisions; inspect materials then make minor repairs on damaged LRC materials; Microsoft Office, Excel and Outlook experience is necessary; purchase, count, verify, balance and maintain cash on hand; create and develop reports related to library statistics; enter, update and maintain database information; assist patrons by answering questions or directing them to the proper technician, librarian, room, or department; work collaboratively with students, supervisor, librarians, staff, as well as community members; must have excellent communication skills and a tactful, calm and polite demeanor with patrons and employees; must be able to work independently, be good at critical thinking and problem solving; must be willing to work cooperatively with a diverse population; plus other duties as assigned.
