Position Description: 

Graphics/Public Relations
 (Part-Time; Exempt Position, Reports to Information Services Manager and Library Director)

  • General Summary: This is a part-time position coordinating all PR within the library with the Information Services Manager and Library Director. Staff is responsible for all flyers, contacting and coordinating PR with local newspapers and other media outlets, updating website, creating e-newsletter and paper newsletter, attending community meetings to promote the library, attending library events and taking pictures for PR purposes. Staff may perform duties in other departments as requested.

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

    • Promotes services, resources and special events of the Library through news articles, feature stories, radio and television releases, and other forms of publicity and public relations.
    • Coordinates the production of flyers, book lists, bookmarks, and other promotional materials.
    • Updates library website and all social media sites
    • Creates e-newsletter and paper newsletter
    • Input/implementation on other PR and marketing avenues
    • Performs other duties as deemed necessary.

      Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Flexibility; ability to function independently.
    • Ability to work effectively with patrons, co-workers and others.
    • Knowledge of marketing, public relations, publicity and ways of promoting an organization and its services.
    • Good communication skills, particularly in interpersonal communication.
    • Ability to do journalistic writing for press releases.
    • Advanced proficiency in computer applications
    • Ability to utilize various tools (scissors, paper cutter, glue gun etc) in a safe manner. Ability to kneel, squat, sit, stand and walk for extended periods of time (15 minutes or more).
      • Ability to travel to local, state, regional and national meetings and conferences.

    Education, Experience, and Training:

    • Some college; demonstrated experience in graphic design highly desirable
    • Demonstrated artistic eye
    • Ability to work with a variety of computer publication software, including but not limited to Microsoft Publisher and Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator
    • Knowledge of HTML and CSS

      Position Hours:

    • This is a part time non-exempt position; must be available to work weekdays, evenings, and weekends. Hours will be dependent on library needs.
