Portland Cement Association (PCA) (www.cement.org), founded in 1916, is a major trade association representing America’s cement manufacturers. PCA’s mission is to “improve and expand the uses of cement and concrete through market development, research, and public affairs.” PCA is engaged in multiple industry alliances and partnerships consistent with its mission.

PCA’s Engineering Research (Library) holds one of the world’s largest and most comprehensive collections of information on cement and concrete. Engineering Research (Library) maintains and continually updates its collections with important resources on cement chemistry, concrete technologies, manufacturing process, environmental technologies, and health and safety issues related to the industry. The Engineering Research (Library) supports PCA’s mission and strategic initiatives by providing technical and research information to PCA members, PCA and CTLGroup Staff, industry professionals, government agencies, allies, and the engineering community. The department utilizes a wide range of electronic tools to address critical information needs. The department’s access to expertise in PCA and allied industry resources, as well as international resources, allows quick solutions and access to state-of-the-art information. The department’s knowledge management experts work to solve the industries’ most challenging problems while advancing technical exchange to increase opportunities for the use of cement and concrete.

Position Summary

This is a regular full-time, Library Information Specialist/Technical Assistant (LTA) position. The successful candidate is responsible for performing day-to-day operations of the Library and participating in various projects related to technical services, digitization and resource sharing. Job duties include cataloging, processing new materials, circulation, interlibrary loans, scanning documents, providing access to archived materials, and data research, analysis, compilation, and reporting. Other related duties may be assigned.

Essential Skills and Experience

Education: certificate or associate degree in LTA program, or bachelor’s or master’s degree

or equivalent combination of training and experiences.

Experience: library work experience is preferred. However, recent graduates are encouraged to apply.


  • Working knowledge of OCLC copy cataloging and Library of Congress Classification, MARC formats and AACR2 cataloging standards preferred.
  • Excellent computer skills and proficient in MS Office Suite (Excel, MS Word, Outlook, etc.).
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills. High level of accuracy and detail-oriented.
  • Proficient in using databases.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, in groups, and efficiently.

Working Conditions

Office environment with an extended use of computer and scanning equipment, but occasionally perform medium duty lifting (up to 20 pounds).

Starting salary: $36,000
