Fountaindale Public Library District, which serves the diverse community of Bolingbrook, Illinois, is seeking a part-time non-exempt Acquisition Assistant in the Technical Services Department to order and receive library materials. Prior experience with ordering materials using Baker & Taylor Titlesource and experience using the Polaris integrated library system is preferred.
Duties include: Creates purchase orders based on order requests, availability and cost via automated library system acquisitions program. Locates and matches MARC records in the consortial bibliographic database. Downloads bibliographic records from vendors into the automated library system. Receives materials and reconciles invoices for payment with standing or firm purchase orders. Returns damaged materials and investigates missing materials with vendor or publisher. Prepares new materials for cataloging by creating item records or by checking them into the automated system serials program and adding barcode numbers and RFID tags. Alerts catalogers of priority materials. Communicates with vendors and publishers about pricing, payment options, shipments and availability. Reconciles vendor statements. Maintains invoices to be paid with correct funding. Communicates with selectors about availability, funding options or new materials of interest. Replaces missing or broken items as necessary. Maintain written documentation of procedures followed. Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Expertise typically acquired through completion of an LA/LTA certification program or an Associates degree program preferred. Skills: Working knowledge of computers and standard office software including word processing, spreadsheet, database and Internet applications. Knowledge of library automation systems.
Communication: Communicates effectively in English, both orally and in writing. Experience: Up to one year related experience in a comparable business, organization or library preferred.

Duties: Assists patrons in all Circulation service areas. Checks library materials in and out.

Creates and renews library cards. Answers and routes all incoming telephone calls. Maintains

patron reserve materials for pickup in Lobby and Drive-Up. Performs basic operations of

Automated Materials Handling (AMH) system including preliminary troubleshooting. Collects

fines on overdue materials. Follows-up on missing, assumed lost and claims returned items as

needed. Assists with preparing and mailing overdue notices as needed. Participates in outreach,

public relations activities and library events as needed. Assists in pulling and processing of

materials for Pick List. Assists in processing of transit materials from other libraries. Performs

other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

SUMMARY
The Information Desk Assistant is responsible for assisting and fulfilling the patrons’ need for materials, information, or services. The Information Desk Assistant is also responsible for representing the Library standards, as this position mostly interacts with the patrons.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Public Service
Assess patrons’ needs effectively and efficiently, either in person, over the telephone, or in writing.
Answer patrons’ general reference inquires and directional questions about the Library and its services.
Instruct patrons in the use of the Audiovisual (AV) classification system.
Search for library materials, by computer and on shelves.
Assist patrons at the online catalog and in the library stacks.
Reserve AV materials for patrons when the request is in-person, over the telephone, or by e-mail.
Assist patrons with Reserves questions when Reserve employees are not available.
Assist patrons with requests for out-of-library services through interlibrary loan.
Process requests for AV equipment for Library programs using E*vents/E*Roomreserve calendar; set-up and take-down equipment and provide instruction on proper use.
Assist with ordering AV materials.
Order and organize the feature film presentations every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Internal Service
Maintain AV information statistics calendar on a daily basis.
Maintain the marquee.
Check inventory of equipment; maintain the Equipment Instruction manual.
Assist with weeding the AV collection.
Assist with special projects, including: create bibliographies, inventory various AV collections, survey other libraries on various topics.
Assist with AV displays within the department and throughout the Library.
Contributes regularly to content of Library webpage.

Other Duties
Maintain working knowledge of the SIRSI computer system, the Library’s stand-alone databases, various CD-ROM products, and ILLNET.
Attend meetings and training as required or requested.

There is an opening for a Circulation Clerk in the Circulation Services Department. This is a year-round, part-time position, with an average of 16 hours per week. The schedule will be Wednesdays 5-9; Thursdays 5-9; Fridays 1-5; and one Saturday morning per month; one Saturday afternoon per month; and one Sunday per month. The salary is $11.26 per hour.

The job requires a friendly personality, good people and communication skills, the ability to do detail work in a busy environment, and accurate typing skills.
