Job Description:

The Messenger Public Library seeks an enthusiastic, creative, and service-focused library associate to join our Youth Services Department team. The Youth Services Department serves children birth – 18 years old and their caregivers. Primary responsibilities include: readers’ advisory and reference services, collection management, programming, and creating displays and bibliographies.


  • Bachelor’s degree or LTA certification required
  • Strong commitment to customer service
  • Ability to work with diverse populations of all ages
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing situations and to varied work schedules
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Knowledge of current technology including: Microsoft Office, library automation systems, social networking, e-books, and e-resources


  • Prior experience working with children, teens, and caregivers
  • Knowledge of children’s and teen literature and current trends in programming
  • Spanish-language skills

St. Charles Public Library- Cataloging Assistant

Schedule: Full-time position; daytime hours, Monday through Friday.
Duties: Will search bibliographic records in SIRSI Integrated Library System; add new bibliographic records into SIRSI ILS from OCLC; and perform copy cataloging of library materials in all formats. Will maintain records in the library database and place orders from library jobbers or will order from publishers directly. Must have good typing skills. (40 wpm) Will work with a team of eight professional and para-professional staff members.
Qualifications: Applicants must have a minimum of an Associate’s degree or an LTA certificate and/or equivalent experience in a larger public library technical services department.
Salary: $15.28 to 19.10/hour, depending on experience.

This position includes participation in IMRF, health insurance, and category B benefits.

Joliet Public Library- Circulation Clerk

The Joliet Public Library has a part-time position open for a Circulation Clerk.  This is a 16 to 20 hours per week position and includes a mixture of days, nights and weekends.  The starting pay is $11.32 per hour.  This position is responsible to perform circulation duties including checking library materials in and out.  Registration and maintenance of patron records, and enforcing the Library Board’s Policies regarding the circulation of library materials.

Qualifications: High school education or equivalent. Have strong computer and technology skills.  Ability to learn library automated circulation and catalog system.  Ability to relate to library patrons of all ages in a positive, patient, and effective manner.
