The Highwood Public Library is looking for someone to work between 15 to 20 hours per week as an Assistant Children’s and Young Adult Librarian. The position is responsible for helping with: answering patron questions; planning, marketing and overseeing children’s and young adult programming; maintaining the children’s and young adult collections through selection, purchasing and weeding of those collections; maintaining the appropriate sections of the library’s website; maintaining the library’s facebook page; collecting statistics; and acting as the librarian-in-charge when needed.

The ideal candidate will have an MLS or be in the process of attaining one. Candidates must also be proficient with MS products, especially Windows and Office; have excellent customer service skills; and be able to work evenings and weekends. Fluency in Spanish is preferred but not required.

  • Contacts vendors with discrepancies regarding quality, quantity or to trace delinquent orders
  • Maintains fiscally responsible and timely accounts with library vendors
  • Organizes, maintains, orders, and distributes all keys for various library properties at both locations
  • Collects monies from copier/printer coin towers and produces a monthly report showing deposit information
  • Serves as back up for processing payroll which includes entering data for payroll adjustments, printing reports and completing the bi-weekly general ledger spreadsheet
  • Assists in final copy production and packet assembling for Board Meetings
  • Assists administrative staff in filing and office organization
  • Assists in handling of special projects as delegated by administration
  • Assists all library personnel in operation of copy and fax machines
  • Assists Administrative Services Coordinator in answering phones, receiving visitors, and handling business calls when required
  • Maintains database of physical assets of Library; occasionally affixes asset tags to library property, and is responsible for accurate asset reporting at annual audit
  • Completes other duties as assigned

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

  • High school graduate and related work experience
